Face-to-face Counselling
Counselling is usually a short-term treatment for a particular issue or concern that you might have. In counselling, we work together to clarify the issues, explore your options, develop strategies and increase your self-awareness towards resolving the situation that is concerning you.
Psychotherapy is usually a longer-term process for more complex issues, with the aim of bringing about more fundamental change. It is more intensive and leads towards a deeper understanding of how you came to be the person you are, what attitudes and beliefs are preventing you from achieving what you want, and creating change in the areas of your life that will bring you the greatest benefit.
Generally each session lasts for one hour, although longer sessions are available on request. Some people get what they need from counselling in just a few sessions, while others may require, or prefer, a longer term approach. The choice is always yours.
Whilst the range of issues that you can bring to counselling is endless, my professional experience and areas of professional interest include:
- relationship challenges between couples and within families
- self esteem and image including weight management and eating disorders
- childhood trauma
- grief, loss and bereavement
- life stage transitions, including separation and divorce
- anxiety and depression
- life meaning and direction
- cross-cultural relationships and issues
